Keeping Infernite safe

How to Report

How to report messages, people, servers and apps, and what happens after you do.

Last updated October 11, 2026
Use the app's Report option when something breaks the Community Guidelines. Reports go to Infernite staff. Reporting does not automatically block someone or remove their content.

1. What you can report

The reporting menu supports messages, people, servers, apps and profile widgets. It also supports Discovery listings, server directory entries, scheduled events, stage channels and the first message in a direct conversation. The available Report option depends on what you are viewing.

Report the specific message or item that shows the problem whenever possible. A report about a person or server does not include every message they have sent.

2. Send a report in the app

Messages

  1. On desktop, hover over the message and open More (the three dots), or right-click the message. On a touch device, press and hold it.
  2. Choose Report Message.
  3. Select the reason that best matches the problem, then choose Submit.

People and profile widgets

Open the person's profile, then use its More menu and choose Report. To report a particular profile widget, use that widget's own menu and choose Report Widget.

Servers and Discovery listings

Open the server menu by selecting its name above the channel list, then choose Report Server where available. For a server you find in Discovery, use the listing's menu to report that listing.

Apps, events and stages

Open the app's profile, event details or stage menu and use its Report option where available. Choose a reason and submit, just as you would for a message.

Wait for Report sent before closing the form. If you see Report could not be sent, the submission was not confirmed. Try again in a moment. If a menu is out of date, close it and open a new report.

3. Choose the closest reason

Each report asks for one of these six reasons. Use the one that best describes the item you are reporting:

  • Hateful language: hateful content directed at a person or group.
  • Harassment or threats: bullying, intimidation, threats or unwanted contact.
  • Spam or scams: phishing, fraud or repeated unwanted messages.
  • Sexual or violent content: unsafe sexual or violent material.
  • Privacy violation: sharing private information or other invasions of privacy.
  • Other safety concern: a problem that does not fit the other reasons.

The current form does not have a screenshot upload or a free-text explanation field. For a problem that needs additional context, contact the people who run Infernite. Do not post someone else's private information in a public channel to draw attention to a report.

4. What staff receive

Staff receive the report type, your selected reason, the relevant account and content identifiers, and the time you submitted the report. The saved information depends on the item:

  • Messages in server channels: a snapshot of the stored message text, author, send time and attachment references. Reporting a message requires access to its channel.
  • People: identifying profile information such as the username, display name and avatar. This does not preserve the person's entire profile.
  • Servers: the server's identifying information and name.
  • Application profile widgets: the app identifier and a snapshot of the widget's text and image references when available.
  • Other items: the identifiers and context included in that report, rather than a complete copy of the app, event or stage.

Saved message text remains in the report if the message is later edited or deleted. Attachment and image references are not a promise that the underlying files will remain available.

Your account identity is visible to the staff reviewing the report. The reporting system does not show it to the person you reported or send them a notification identifying you.

5. Reports about encrypted DMs

In encrypted DMs, message text and files are encrypted. The reporting form does not attach your decrypted message, a screenshot or your encryption keys. Reporting an encrypted DM therefore does not give staff the readable message text or file contents.

Staff can review the available metadata, such as the sender, message identifier, time and selected reason. Choose the closest reason and contact staff if more context is needed. You can also block the person immediately without waiting for a report decision.

6. What happens next

Your report enters the staff review queue. Staff can dismiss it, resolve it, reopen it or remove a reported message when appropriate. A report can also lead to an account violation after staff review. Submitting a report does not automatically add a violation.

The app confirms submission, but it does not currently provide a report-status page or send the reporter an automatic outcome message. There is no guaranteed response time. Avoid submitting the same report repeatedly while waiting for review.

If there is a problem in a server, you can also contact that server's moderators. Server moderation and reports to Infernite staff are separate: a server moderator can act in their server, while instance staff review reports across the service.

7. Account Standing and appeals

If staff issue a violation or change your standing, the official account sends an account notice. Use its Learn More button, or open User Settings › Account Standing, to review your status, violations, staff explanations, expiration dates and any listed actions.

By default, one active violation gives Limited standing, two give Very Limited standing, and three or more give At Risk standing. A disabled account is Suspended. Staff can also set standing directly. An expired violation or one overturned on appeal stops counting toward the automatic standing calculation; a staff override may still apply.

If a violation is wrong, open its details and request a review. Choose your appeal reason and add an explanation if you wish. Each violation can be appealed once. Staff can approve the appeal or uphold the violation, and the official account sends the decision. An approved appeal stops that violation from affecting your standing; the decision can still appear in your account history.

8. Reporting limits and problems

  • The service accepts up to 30 reports per account in a rolling hour. Other request rate limits may also apply. Wait before trying again if you reach a limit.
  • You cannot report yourself. Message reports also require a message that still exists and a channel you can access at submission time.
  • Report actual safety or rule concerns. Deliberately false or abusive reports can break the Community Guidelines.
  • If a Report option is missing or repeatedly fails, contact the people who run Infernite and describe where the problem occurs. Never send your password, recovery code or encryption keys.

9. Protect yourself while staff review

  • Use Block from a person's profile to stop direct contact. Blocking does not submit a report.
  • Mute a conversation, channel or server when you need a break.
  • Review your messaging and friend-request permissions in settings.
  • Leave a server or conversation that makes you feel unsafe.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In-app reporting is not an emergency service.
